Coming Soon!
The Edward Albee Unified Arts Center

307 Grand St, Brooklyn, NY 11211

The Edward Albee Unified Arts Center will operate as an extension of our longstanding residency -  The Barn - for writers and visual artists of all disciplines, providing essential space and resources to all of our Fellows, including:

• A gallery for Albee Visual Artist Fellows to share their work
• A writers room (free of charge) for our Writing Fellows to scribble, type and dream without distraction
• Rehearsal spaces for Playwriting Fellows to ideate, play, and agonize in three dimensions
• Curated programs
• Memorable events
• Chances to "fail interestingly" we haven't even dreamt up yet

Our flagship program will be the resurrection of The Playwrights Unit, the new play initiative that Albee ran with his producing partners from 1963-1971. The Playwrights Unit helped launch the Off-Off-Broadway movement and now we’re taking things even further Off-Broadway. The revived Playwrights Unit will invite selected playwrights into a two-year development program that will culminate in a full production, just as Edward intended.

Interior construction will begin in mid-winter 2027 and we anticipate our doors opening soon after Labor Day that same year. (Subject to the usual expected unexpected construction delays.)

If you are an upcoming or former Barn resident - or just a fellow creative who likes to stay in the know - fill out the form here to get added to our mailing list.

Our intention is also to create an open, inviting community space as well, and we look forward to finding ways to engage with the vibrant creative neighborhood around us; if you're local and curious, please don't hesitate to reach out and introduce yourself -- either online or in person (knock first, please!)

Hope to see you in Brooklyn soon!
