Kevin Benham: Kevin Benham is an Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture in the School of Design at South Dakota State University. He received his MLA from the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University and his M.Arch. at the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning, The University of Michigan. He has taught interdisciplinary studios at several academic institutions, including the University of Michigan, Louisiana State University, Wentworth Institute of Technology and the Boston Architectural College. His research and work focuses on landscape phenomena and the temporal qualities inherent in the discipline. To that end, he produces temporal and ephemeral installations that elucidate phenomena requiring careful observation through space and time. He has exhibited his conceptual work throughout the world, including exhibits at the Royal Institute of British Architects, London, England; CUBE Gallery, Manchester England; Zurich, Switzerland; New Orleans, Louisiana; and Scottsdale, Arizona.
Melissa Capasso: Melissa Capasso is a painter who lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Her work explores the body in relation to the psyche, incorporating representational and abstract elements, texture, symbols, and color. She studied studio art at NYU and received her MFA in painting from Brooklyn College, where she received the Charles G. Shaw Art Department Award and was nominated for the Dedalus Foundation MFA Fellowship. She has exhibited her work throughout New York and Brooklyn and at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum in Provincetown, MA. She was recently awarded a Terra Vivente Art Studio Residency, in Guardia Sanframondi, Italy. Matty Davis: Matty Davis is visual artist, dancer (BOOMERANG), and athlete from the suburbs of Pittsburgh. His work mines the immediacy and potential of a living, breathing, moving body,—the visceral body,—and explores it as a malleable site of growth, destruction, mapping, and meaning-making. Currently, his research involves journey-based performances that run the gamut of sculpture, drawing, and film. In 2012, Davis co-founded (and continues to co-artistic direct) BOOMERANG, a dance and performance project hailed as the “punk Mozarts of dance” and which will make its European premiere in Paris in June 2016 at the invitation of Robert Wilson. Davis has presented his work and performed throughout the US, including at the Watermill Center, Judson Church, the United Nations, and in Performa 13 (with Guido van der Werve and Pedro Gómez-Egaña) and Performa 15 (with Francesco Vezzoli and David Hallberg). He has studied at Kenyon College, Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker’s P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels, the American Dance Festival, and recently completed his MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. www.mattywdavis.com and www.boomerangdance.com Simone Kearney: Simone Kearney was born in Dublin, Ireland, and currently lives in Baltimore, MD. This year, she received an MFA in Painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art. She also completed an MFA in Poetry from Hunter College in 2010. In 2014, she was a winner of a New York Fellowship for the Arts award in Poetry. Previous artist residencies include the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, and the Woodstock Brydcliffe Guild. In the fall, a chapbook of her poetry and watercolors will be published by Monk Books Press. Gunjan Kumar: Gunjan Kumar was born in Punjab, India and currently lives between Chicago and Delhi. She is an Economics graduate and has studied Textile Design from National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi. Self-taught in arts, she has keen interest in age-old methods, archaeology, pre-historic and tribal arts and has traveled extensively exploring these areas. These experiences form the undertone of her art practice. Kumar has worked closely with Gond tribes from Central India, promoting and observing their peculiar style of nature-inspired abstractions. She launched her maiden body of works in 2015 in a three-person show that highlighted her self developed process using earth minerals and organic media. Her other interests include collecting and vocalizing folk music, mostly Indian and Pakistani rural folk. www.gunjankumar.com Eleanor Ray: Eleanor Ray was born in Gainesville, Florida and currently lives in Brooklyn. She received her MFA from the New York Studio School and her BA from Amherst College. Her work has been shown at Steven Harvey Fine Art Projects and the American Academy of Arts and Letters in New York. Previous residencies include the BAU Institute at the Camargo Foundation, the Dumfries House, the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild and the Vermont Studio Center. She is a 2015 NYFA fellow in painting. www.eleanorkray.com Virginia Wagner: Virginia Wagner studied at Oberlin College, where she received the Ellen Battell Stoeckel Fellowship to Yale’s Norfolk Summer School of Art. She completed her MFA at MICA’s Hoffberger School of Painting in Baltimore in 2011. She has had residencies at the School of Visual Arts, the Vermont Studio Center, the Jentel Foundation, and the Ucross Foundation. She runs the blog Painters on Paintings, which she cofounded with artist Julie Heffernan. She received the 2016 Lotos Prize in Painting. Currently, she teaches at Montclair State University and Pratt Institute and lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. www.studiovirginia.com Matthew Woodward: Matthew Woodward was born in Rochester New York in 1981. He was educated at the School of the Art institute of Chicago (BFA 05) and the New York Academy of Art (MFA 07). He is previously an instructor of Art at Dominican University and has lectured at schools and colleges throughout the United States. He has been an artist in residence at Cill Rialiag in Ireland, the Vermont Studio Center, MICA’s Alfred and Trafford Klots International Program in Lehon, France, as well as others, and has appeared in numerous publications including New American Paintings, and has been reviewed in places such as Art Pulse, Chicago Art Magazine, Bad at Sports and Art Critical. Currently, Woodward lives and works in New York and is represented at Linda Warren Projects, where a solo exhibition is scheduled for 2017. |

Nell Boeschenstein: Nell Boeschenstein lives in Charlottesville, Virginia, and teaches nonfiction writing at Sweet Briar College. She is a former producer for Fresh Air with Terry Gross and BackStory with the American History Guys. Among other places, her writing has appeared on The Rumpus, This Recording, the Guardian, and The Morning News, where she is a contributing writer. She has a B.A. from Dartmouth College and an M.F.A. from Columbia University.
David Chan: David Chan is the author of Goblin Fruit: Stories, a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Art Seidenbaum Award for First Fiction. He has been awarded writing fellowships from Yaddo, the MacDowell Colony, the Djerassi Resident Artists Program, and the Norman Mailer Writers Colony. In 2009 he was one of five American artists selected to participate in a cultural exchange in China with Chinese writers, in a program funded in part by the U.S. State Department and the Chinese Writers Association. Writing in the Los Angeles Times Book Review, Rick Moody called Goblin Fruit: Stories “probably the most stunning debut of the year, one that gives much promise of great things to come,” and in the New York Review of Books, Joyce Carol Oates wrote: “David Chan’s voice is haunting and original. Goblin Fruit is a fascinating cri de couer by a young writer of promise and substance.” Bryce Emley: Bryce holds an MFA in poetry from NC State. His poetry and nonfiction can be found in Boston Review, Best American Experimental Writing 2015, The Normal School, Harvard Review, Prairie Schooner, Modern Farmer, etc., and he serves as Poetry Editor of Raleigh Review. Ryan Flanagan: Ryan Flanagan received his Ph.D. from the University of North Texas, and teaches writing now at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His creative nonfiction has appeared in Image, DIAGRAM, and CutBank. Ryan grew up in Turnersville, New Jersey, and will be surf fishing during his free time in Montauk. Amanda Kallis: Amanda Kallis is a writer from Los Angeles. Currently she is an MFA candidate in Fiction at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. Her prose poetry has appeared / is forthcoming in Prelude Magazine and The Cincinnati Review. She holds a BA from Pomona College in Politics and has studied photography and Japanese. Her project while in Montauk is a science fiction novel that foregrounds the politics of body and memory. Jess Lacher: Jess Lacher holds a BS in film from Northwestern University and an MFA in creative writing from Hunter College, where she was a Hertog Fellow and taught English and the humanities. Her short stories have been published in print and online and her plays have been performed across the country. She currently lives in Los Angeles, where she is working on a novel and writing for film and television. Sasha Laing: Sasha Laing is a writer and artist living and working in Brooklyn. She grew up in Meaford, Ontario where her family ran a small independent carpentry business. She earned her MFA in fiction from Columbia University in 2011 and has since had work accepted for publication by West Branch and The American Reader. She has been awarded residencies by VCCA, Ragdale and Villa Lena and is the creator of lovemoneydeath.com Maura Pellettieri: Maura Pellettieri is a nomadic writer, though she often spends significant stretches of time in St. Louis, Missouri, where she is a fiction editor for The Spectacle. She is the co-founder and host of a moving salon series, Salon A Lulu. From 2014-2015, she was named the Junior Writer in Residence at Washington University in St. Louis, where she formerly taught Fiction and Microfiction. She holds an MFA from Washington University. Her work has been published in New Contrast and Connotation Press, and is forthcoming in Guernica and Apogee, among others. In the off hours, she rides bikes and scrambles on rocks. Casey Quinn: Casey Quinn is nomadic, hopefully settling soon. He holds an MFA from Sarah Lawrence and has been awarded scholarships from Bread Loaf Writer’s Conference, Community of Writers at Squaw Valley, and Hamilton College. His fiction has appeared or is forthcoming in Narrative, Post Road, SmokeLong Quarterly and elsewhere. Molly Rector: Molly Bess Rector is a poet whose work explores the reclamation of self after small and quiet violences. She lives and studies in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where she is poetry editor for the Arkansas International (at the time of this writing a very new literary magazine) and co-curates the community-based Open Mouth Reading Series, both of which she hopes you'll look up. Walker Rutter-Bowman: Walker Rutter-Bowman is an MFA fiction candidate at Syracuse University, where he is also the fiction editor of the Salt Hill Journal. He writes short stories about animals, love, sports, and time. Through gradual escalations, his work pushes into realms of the absurd. He is still trying not to be too cartoony. He is currently at work on a novel, and his time at the Barn will be spent assessing the mess he's made. Lauren Winchester: Lauren Winchester lives in Washington, D.C. and teaches creative writing at Johns Hopkins University, where she received her MFA in poetry from The Writing Seminars. Her work has appeared in Passages North, The Philadelphia Review of Books, BOAAT, and elsewhere. She is an assistant editor at The Hopkins Review. |
